SHORT STORY

Siddharth is the spellbinding and gorgeously wrought tale of one father’s journey across India in search of his son. Mehendra is a chain-wallah, eking out a living fixing zippers on the bustling streets of New Delhi. To ease his financial woes, he sends twelve-year-old Siddharth to work in a distant factory. When the boy doesn’t come home for the Diwali holiday, Mehendra and his wife Suman slowly begin to suspect that he was kidnapped by child traffickers. With few resources and no connections, Mehendra desperately travels to Punjab and Mumbai with the hope that whoever took Siddharth might return him unharmed. A powerful family drama, both heart-rending and suspenseful, Siddharth won Best Film (and Best Director for Richie Mehta) at the South Asian International Film Festival and is an Official Selection of Human Rights Watch.

Synopsis:

There's nothing Ernie loves more than an excellent adventure, whether he's zooming around town on his rocket-powered skateboard or stealing an early peek at the coolest new fossil exhibit at the Dinosaur Museum. It's not always easy under the strict rule of his mom Sue - especially with his sister Julia following him around and trying to get him into trouble every chance she gets - but he still manages to stir up some fun. One day, however, Ernie's daredevil nature takes him on a journey with potentially irreversible consequences. After sneaking over to his best friend Max's house, Ernie discovers Max's dad's latest invention: a sleek, egg-shaped time machine. Suddenly, Julia bursts in to bust the two boys, and in the ensuing chaos, the time machine whirs to life and closes its doors on the three arguing kids. When the hydraulic doors hiss open, the kids find themselves in a lush jungle untouched by mankind, with a living, breathing T-Rex named Tyra standing over them. Tyra nuzzles them softly, and Ernie realizes that they're not going to end up dinosaur food ? they're family! The egg-shaped time machine has landed in Tyra's nest, and the she thinks the human children are hers, new siblings to her hyperactive dinosaur son Dodger. Ernie's ready to seize the opportunity to have his most incredible escapade yet ? but there's still the little problem of how to eventually get home, what with the time machine having lost a vital component in its crash landing. Throw in some creepy dinosaur rivals of Tyra's who plan to take the time machine "egg" to lure her into their lair, and the road back to the present is paved with obstacles. It's going to take a lot of teamwork, and maybe even some surprising help from Sue, to reunite Ernie, Julia and Max with their human families and get them out of "Dino Time." Dhenikaina Ready (2012)

Synopsis:

When his younger sister Sarawathi ran out on her arranged marriage and eloped with Basha, a Muslim, Narasimha disowned her, cut off Basha's leg, and started a two-decades-long feud between the families. Since that time, nothing has gone right for Narasimha's household. Over Saraswathi's objections, Basha sued for part of Narasimha's land, and after a 20-year court case, Basha won. Narasimha has been trying to get a canal built in his village, but all his petitions have met with failure. It's as if his household is under a curse. To lift the curse, Narasimha has hired the great priest and Vedic scholar Krishna Sastri to perform a ritual blessing. But the priest is actually a Muslim in disguise: Saraswathi's son, Suleman (Vishnu Manchu), who's come to make his mother's wish come true and bring the enemy families together. He's surrounded by the clownish cohort of out-of-work Brahmins he's hired to help him, squabbling household servants always on the verge of accidentally breaking some taboo and desanctifying the ceremony, a jealous priest threatening to expose him, and violent hoodlums out for vengeance. Amid a farce packed with mistaken identities, disguises, deceptions, misaligned marriage promises, flying chicken legs, the constant risk of discovery, and several lovely ladies vying for Suleman's affections--including Narasimha's daughter, who knows his true identity--the big question is whether Suleman can accomplish his mission before his uncle's brutal brothers find him out and crush his chances--and most likely his skull as well.
